The Dan Jerusalem — reportedly born as a Hyatt Regency before Dan Hotels acquired and refurbished it — steps down the Mount Scopus hillside in terraced patios, over 500 rooms and suites from family units to a 146 m² Presidential Suite. Beside it: Hebrew University's Mount Scopus campus and a Hadassah hospital campus, which makes it the natural base for academic visits, medical stays, and — most of all — groups. Tour buses, seminaries hosting parents, and simcha blocks are its bread and butter, at prices meaningfully below the city-center 5-stars.

The trade is location, and it deserves honest numbers rather than slogans — see below. If your trip revolves around the Old City on foot, this is the wrong perch; if it revolves around space, views, value, and a weekend simcha, it's one of the best-priced large kosher hotels in the city.

The Kashrus, Exactly

• Certifier: Rabbanut Yerushalayim (Jerusalem Rabbinate), standard certificate — cross-verified in two independent sources (a kosher-travel listing and a February 2026 press site-visit). Oddly, Dan Hotels' own site says only "kosher restaurants and bar" and never names the body.
• Reported detail (color, not certificate): the 2026 press visit described Gush Katif vegetables and chalav Yisrael dairy in the kitchen — encouraging, but a reporter's observation, not a standard the hotel publishes.
• Not mehadrin. Modern-Orthodox and dati-leumi families and large organized tours have relied on it for years; mehadrin and Badatz households should compare Jerusalem Gate — 298 rooms under Badatz Mehadrin Rabbanut with OU, the natural like-for-like group alternative among our four primary hotels.

Shabbos on Mount Scopus

• Davening: an on-site synagogue runs on Shabbos and Yom Tov, and for big weekends the hotel's ballroom space serves as an additional minyan — this is a hotel that genuinely knows how to host a 200-person Shabbos.
• The simcha reality: independent press describes weekend after weekend of bar mitzvahs and Shabbat chatanim with the hotel "fully booked with mostly religious guests." If you've been invited to a simcha "at the Dan," this is why.
• Shabbat elevator: guests report one that stops at every floor — guest-reported rather than hotel-published, so confirm it for your dates (we do, in writing).
• Meals: Shabbos meal arrangements are standard practice here for observant weekends; reserve them with the room, not at check-in.

The Kotel Distance — The Honest Version

Most kosher-travel pages flatly say "not walkable." The marketing pages say "minutes from everything." Both dodge the actual facts:

• The distance is short: roughly 1.9 km straight-line to the Old City — about a 10-minute drive midweek, or a light-rail hop (the hotel is minutes from a stop; no service on Shabbos).
• The walk is the problem: the on-foot route descends through East Jerusalem neighborhoods (Wadi Joz / A-Tur) without continuous sidewalks and with a serious climb back. Most observant guests do not treat it as a standard Shabbos walk — a route-and-terrain call, not a distance one.
• Practical planning: daven in the hotel on Shabbos; do the Kotel midweek by taxi or light rail. Guests who accept that rhythm love the hotel; guests who wanted a Shabbos-walk-to-the-Kotel trip should book the city center instead — we'll tell you that straight before you commit either way.

Rooms, Pools, Amenities — What's Confirmed

• Rooms: 500+ (505 by one trade count), from Jerusalem Rooms through Family Units to the Scopus (106 m²), Presidential (146 m²), and Royal suites — real capacity for keeping a whole simcha under one roof.
• Pools: seasonal outdoor pool + kids' pool (9:00–18:00, closed winter); heated indoor spa pool, adults-only (18+). Sauna: wet and dry, separate for men and women. No gender-separated pool hours are published — ask directly if it matters.
• Dining: Pavilion buffet (breakfast 6:30–10:30), J Cafe dairy restaurant-bar with a panoramic balcony (11:00–23:00), terrace and lobby bar.
• Family: "Danyland" kids' club (10:00–13:00, 14:00–18:00), tennis courts, gym.
• Parking: free but limited, first-come; paid EV charging.
• Events: indoor and outdoor venues for conferences and family celebrations — exact banquet capacities aren't published, so get numbers in writing for a simcha block.

Which Dan Is Which

Three Jerusalem hotels share the Dan name, and directories mix them constantly: Dan Jerusalem (this page — the big one, Mount Scopus), Dan Panorama Jerusalem (city center, near the Old City, a different building entirely), and Dan Boutique (Hebron Road). Reviews, kashrus notes, and walk times for one do not apply to the others — check which Dan your quote actually names before comparing prices.
