Kashrus guide · Jerusalem

Glatt kosher hotels in Jerusalem.

“Glatt” is the meat standard most chareidi and yeshivish families treat as a baseline — not a luxury upgrade. Here is what it actually means in a hotel kitchen, which properties serve it by default, and how to choose among glatt hotels that still differ on hechsher authority.

The short answer

In Jerusalem, mehadrin and badatz hotel kitchens serve glatt meat as a matter of course. Searching “glatt kosher hotels Jerusalem” usually means you want a hotel where glatt is the everyday kitchen standard — not an optional upgrade — and where the rest of the kashrus system (milk, produce, mashgiach, Pesach) matches your family’s standard.

All four hotels JRM books are glatt-standard. They still differ on who certifies them (Badatz Eida HaChareidis, Badatz Agudat Yisrael, HaRav Efrati Mehadrin, Badatz Mehadrin Rabbanut + OU), neighborhood, and amenities. Glatt answers the meat question; the hechsher answers whether the hotel is the right fit.

What “glatt” means (and what it does not)

  • It is a meat standard — lungs inspected as “smooth,” free of problematic adhesions (sirchos).
  • It is not a full hechsher — a hotel can serve glatt meat and still not hold Badatz Eida, Chalav Yisrael everywhere, or your rav’s preferred produce standard.
  • Glatt chalak / Beit Yosef is a further stringency some Sephardi and rigorous families require; confirm that specifically if it is non-negotiable.
  • Standard Rabbanut hotels may or may not serve glatt — never assume from an old directory listing.
