Kashrus & Hechsher

Which hotels in Yerushalayim are right for a frum family?

Yerushalayim has 23 full-service kosher hotels, and the right way to choose is by hechsher tier: one under Badatz Eida HaChareidis (Haneviim Boutique), one under Badatz Agudat Yisrael (Prima Palace), a mehadrin tier that includes Yirmiyahu 33 (HaRav Efrati, with a Mashgiach Temidi) and Jerusalem Gate (Badatz Mehadrin Rabbanut Yerushalayim plus OU), and a standard-Rabbanut tier — fully kosher, but not mehadrin. Start from your family's standard, then choose location and price within that tier.

The mehadrin tier runs deeper than the four we book — from Prima Kings and Cassia through the Ganei Hotel; our which-hotels-in-Jerusalem-are-mehadrin answer lists every property in it — while the famous standard-Rabbanut names (the Mamilla, King David, Waldorf Astoria, and the rest) are fully kosher but not mehadrin, so a family whose rav expects mehadrin or a badatz books from the tiers above and lets location and budget sort the rest.

Within the top tiers, location and budget do the sorting: Haneviim Boutique is the closest of our four to the Old City (about a 25–30 minute walk to the Kosel); Prima Palace sits by Geulah and Mea Shearim in the frum heart of town; and the two Romema hotels — Yirmiyahu 33 and Jerusalem Gate — sit at the entrance to the city beside the light rail and central bus station, with Jerusalem Gate the largest (298 rooms) and the most affordable. The complete tiered directory of all 23 hotels lives on our kosher-hotels-in-Jerusalem page, each checked against the hotel's own kashrus statement — and we re-confirm the supervision per booking, because arrangements do change.
